Creation Running Around Your House

Beautiful landscapes, glorious sunsets over the lake, and freshly fallen snow are not the only acts of the Creator that reflect Him.  You have some of His creation running around your house.

I cannot take a walk or even drive to the grocery store this time of year without feeling the impulse to take a (100th) picture of Michigan’s Autumn landscape–the reds & oranges captivate me–shades Crayola cannot duplicate.

I am never in the car alone, so I am often pointing out one window or another telling the girls, “Oh! Look at those ones!”  When I see a green tree, I search for a hint of glorious fall color at the tips of the leaves.

They’re gorgeous, but it isn’t just their beauty that captures me, it is the way those trees proclaim the glory of their Creator.

For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God. (Romans 1:20, NLT)

At times, I am more moved by the new shade of red on the corner Maple than I am by the small acts of kindness or compassion from my children.  But, Romans tells me that everything God made clearly displays His invisible qualities.  My people reflect their Creator.

Now, those trees never disobey me, mess up the room I just straightened or flush random objects down the toilet, but, if the trees are worthy of my attention (and they are; all of His creation is), then I should practice being captivated when my children display goodness, kindness, patience, or gentleness.  They are declaring the glory of God.

I search in September for the first hints of color on our front yard tree, and celebrate any little tinge of red. As I practice being captivated by the creation in my house, Lord, let me diligently search for any hints of You being reflected in my children–and celebrate them.  Let me not lose hope when so many leaves are still green and unchanged, for You will complete the work you have begun in my children.

Mommas, today when you notice something lovely about creation, let it remind you that those little people bellowing your name from the back seat of the van are His creation, and in little ways, they’re reflecting their Creator–celebrate!
